The Joule's Calorimeter is a fully assembled unit comprising of heating coil, two mutually insulated aluminium beakers, a lid with rubber stopper with boreholes for thermometer and stirrer, and a heating coil. Innermost aluminium beaker has a capacity of 150 ml is used for determining the specific heat capacity of solids and liquids and for measuring the electrical heat equivalent.
The cover contains a mounted heating coil of approximately 2-3 ohms of resistance with standard fixing posts for electrical connections. When connected to a 6 volt power source (not supplied), this coil will cause a temperature rise of about 5 degrees centigrade in 10 minutes. The support posts and coil are coated to prevent electrolysis.
Lid fitted with 2 x 4mm socket heads.
Instructions included.
Also required (not supplied): Thermometer or K-type thermocouple with probe & sensor, density cubes, distilled water, apparatus to heat water (e.g. kettle, water bath), digital bench scales, 3 x leads with piggy back or stackable banana plugs on both ends (preferably red and black), measuring cylinder or beaker, ammeter, voltmeter and power supply (require 6V, max 1.7-2 Ohms) .
