An apparatus used to demonstrate buoyancy driven convection.  The 16mm (OD) tube, made of borosilicate glass is bent into a rectangle and fitted with a funnel on top to add water.  Fill up with water, add a little bit of dye to see the motion of water during convection, by heating one corner with a Bunsen burner.   As the water heats up in that corner, it becomes less dense and expands and the water will rise up along on one side, initiating convection in the tube.  As the warm water rises, it is replaced by cooler water from the other parallel tube, which in turn is heated up and rises.   This is the motion of convection in liquids.

Dimensions (approx.): 230mm (overall length) - Glass rectangle tube: 190mm (h) x 160mm (w).

Additional apparatus required to mount the glass tube (not included): Retort stand and clamp. Dye not included (food dye or a small amount of Potassium Permanganate crystals is suitable), heat source such as Bunsen burner (low heat only), alcohol burner or candle.
