A 107mm canoe-shaped object, also known as Celtic Stone (amongst other names), that when spun on a smooth surface will rotate on its axis in a preferred direction. If the rattleback is spun in the opposite direction, it becomes unstable and begins to rock or “rattle” (it oscillates upon its short axis), then it stops spinning in that direction, continuing to rock, before reversing its direction of spin.
The shape of the bottom of the rattleback is not symmetric.
